The Graphite material used in the manufacture of fishing rods behaves quite differently than the Fiberglas normally used. Graphite is usable only if itâs fibers run parallel to the length of the rod. If the fibers run in an opposed biased direction, as Fiberglas is, itâs as stiff as iron. So the trick is to use the Graphite with proper orientation.
The cross section of an all Graphite rod takes on an oval shape as the rod is loaded. When this oval becomes flat enough, the rod simply folds up like a soda straw that is bent too far. Since Graphite is very brittle, the rod breaks at that instant, and appears to simply explode.
To prevent this from happening, Seeker developed the composite rod manufacturing technique, using a combination of Fiberglas and Graphite. The Fiberglas is laid in a biased direction while the Graphite is laid in a longitudinal direction. The effect of the Fiberglas on the Graphite is like a girdle, inhibiting the oval shaping of the Graphite component of the rod as it is loaded. So what you end up with is a rod that has the durability of a Fiberglas rod with the attributes of a Graphite rod.
Seeker makes two lines of Graphite composite rods, the Black Steel Series, which is a combination of E-Glass and Graphite, and the Inshore Series, which is a combination of S-Glass and Graphite. E-Glass is the more pliable of the two, while S-Glass is lighter and stiffer.
Seeker Black Steel Graphite
Seeker developed the Seeker Black Steel Graphite composite series as an evolutionary step in the construction of blue water fishing rods. The challenge was to create a rod applying the increased strength of Graphite while maintaining the ruggedness and comfort of an all Fiberglas rod. The result is a rod that has a tip soft enough to allow bait lobbing yet strong enough to give brute strength for landing the fish. The combination of these characteristics provides an ideal blue water fishing rod.
Seeker has spared no effort in making the Seeker Black Steel Graphite the best rod money can buy. Seeker uses the best Aftco roller guides, the best Perfection Titanium Carbide ring guides, the best hypalon grips, and the best guide wrapping methods and materials known. Compare these attributes with rods from other manufacturers and you will find that the Seeker Black Steel Graphite is not only the best value around, but it is also the better functioning rod.
