I have been
fishing ever since I can remember,
but it was 1987 when I took my first
long range trip, a ten day trip on
the Q105 with John Grabowski at the
helm. That trip with Mr Charisma lit
a fire than hasn't dimmed since. I
have been very fortunate to fish
with some of the best anglers,
captains and crew, and have learned
a lot about all aspects of long
ranging.
My favorite fish in the world to
catch is Giant Yellowfin Tuna, and
Calico Bass is number two in my
book.
I love to be out on the boat, see
all there is to see and experience,
make friends, teach and be taught,
and help out the crew if they need
it.
I had a great opportunity to fish
with Seeker Black Steel rods on some
very large Yellowfin Tuna recently,
and had great success with them. I
caught fish on the 6455XXXH,
6463XXH, and the 6463XXXH. They all
performed very well on tuna close to
two hundred pounds, and I'm looking
forward to many more trips with my
new Seeker rods.
Enough talk, let's go fishing :-)

Party Boats (1/2 and ¾ day) I use:
Inshore Models 706, 708, 709, 808
and the “React” series. 706H
CR for throwing blams!
I guess you
could say I’ve been fishing all of
my life! My earliest memory is
one catching a bluegill in a river
in Pennsylvania. At 5 or 6
years old. As a young
boy I fished the Niagara River and
Erie Barge Canal in North Tonawanda,
New York. I started salt
water fishing in 1980, but got
serious about the sport in 1986 (the
same year as my divorce . . . there
might be a connection!) I
retired from teaching in 2002 after
30 years in the Garden Grove Unified
School District, where I taught
black and white photography at
Rancho Alamitos High School.
While living in
Los Alamitos I developed a passion
for fishing the Long Beach and
Federal break walls at night.
I have won five tournaments dating
back to the 1980’s. The most
recent being the “2002 All-Coast
Wall Banger”. It was during
this time period that I was lucky
enough to become friends with the
eventually fishing partner of Fuss
Dean. Fuss is a fellow seeker
pro-staffer who I believe in his
prime was the best wall fisherman
ever!
My other love
in Southern California was bay
fishing. I have logged
countless hours in Newport Bay and
Long Beach Harbor (before 9/11).
I lived in San
Diego for two years where I put in
over 100 days each year in the bays.
In association
with “Snappy Guides” I narrated two
DVD’s. One on San Diego Bay
and the other on Mission Bay.
If you enjoy fishing plastic’s these
DVD’s are a must, see!
Speaking of
plastics my fishing has evolved to
an ”All plastic, all the time!”
I believe I am sponsored by the best
lures on the market, Captain Mike’s
fish candy (Whams) and edge
products, and hot sauce and flurries
(swim baits). To give you some
idea of my success with plastic . .
. 2003-2006, the last four C.A.S.T
Tournaments sponsored by United
Anglers (catch/release) I have been
1st or 2nd!
During this time I released over
3400 fish! . . . All caught on
plastic!!
Last year I
fulfilled my dream of moving to
Florida. I now live in New
Smyrna Beach, home of Mosquito
Lagoon! The lagoon is one of
the top redfish/trout destinations
in the U.S. By the way the
Seeker React CR 706 6’ or 6-1/2’ is
my rod of choice for the beach.
It also is perfect for top water
lures in the Lagoon. The
inshore 705 (12# test) is my “Big
Red” Rod!
I have a lot of
choices when it comes to fishing
here. I can walk toe beach
throwing plastic on ¼ or 3/8 heads
(my biggest catch so far is a 10#
Jack!)
I can wade in
the Lagoon for trout and redfish
(using plastic with 1/8 or 3/16
heads or weed less rigs). When
the opportunity comes up I fish in
flats boat with a friend. (My
boat will be ready in August)
Weather permitting I am fishing
almost daily.
I also have
continued to make trips to Keys
(Islamorada) in search of bonefish
and tarpon. My biggest Bone
was caught eight years ago and
weighed in at 14lb-2oz . . . a real
trophy! I have caught 6 fish
over 10 pounds and hope to get a lot
more.
My biggest
tarpon was an estimated 150lbs (I
broke off after a half hour!)
Note: A
couple of guides are using the black
steel 6470 and finding it the
perfect rod for big “poon”!
Florida offers so many fishing
opportunities. (I didn’t even
mention fresh water!)

I was born and raised on the South
Shore of Long Island, New York. I
honed my fishing skills starting in
the bay and working into the ocean
as the years went by.
In the
sixties I worked the local bays
learning all there was to know about
every species and how to catch them.
I would occasionally crew with
offshore boats and do some blue
water fishing for tuna and marlin.
In the late sixties and early
seventies I began to focus on
striped bass and started to catch
some trophy size fish and gain some
recognition in the sport.
The
swing to offshore happened around
1970 when I crewed on a boat that
fished out of Gloucester,
Massachusetts for giant tuna. This
went on through the mid 70’s. I
fished and crewed on boats landing
giants up to over 1000 pounds during
that time.
I then began
crewing and running boats to the
Atlantic Canyons through the late
seventies and into the early 80’s.
This was when the fishing was hot. I
was with a bunch of guys that
pioneered the art of trolling and
chunking tuna, swordfish and marlin.
We figured out how to hook up and
land big fish by experimenting with
all types of tackle and terminal
gear which was very limited at that
time. It was a great experience.
I have fished New England, the
mid Atlantic, Florida, Bahamas and
some West Coast out of San Diego.
In 1980 got my Master Captain’s
license and started my fishing
charter business, Skimmer Fishing
Enterprises Inc. and worked hard to
develop a top notch clientele.
My charter business focuses on
inshore fishing primarily for trophy
striped bass. My specialty is
catching large striped bass with
live bait and big top water plugs. I
have landed two striped bass over 60
pounds and many over 50 pounds
during my career and my clients have
landed many stripers over 50 pounds.
I also captain a number of
Canyon running boats and can fish
blue water with the best of them
targeting Big Eye, Yellowfin,
Bluefin, Marlin and Swordfish.
I have fished both conventional
tackle and fly tackle in Guatemala,
the Bahamas and Florida. When
fishing tropical waters I primarily
focus on bones, sails, tarpon, snook
and permit. In 2005 on a super good
trip to Guatemala I landed a 300
pound blue marlin and over 30
Pacific Sailfish on fly tackle.
I am a Mercury “Pro Team”
member, Ande Line “Pro Staff”,
Trophy Tackle “Pro Staff”, and
Gibb’s Plugs “Pro Staff” and have
product support from and promote
Navico/Lowrance and a number of
other companies and their products.
In addition to my fishing
activities I also conduct fishing
seminars throughout the year at
tackle shops, fishing clubs and
“Outdoor” shows. I have produced
seven instructional fishing DVD’s
and have over 60 YouTube videos
currently posted with almost two
million views. I host an extensive
and interactive website
www.skimmeroutdoors.com featuring my
fishing reports, user uploaded
fishing reports, product reviews,
Skimmer TV, fishing articles, tips
and many other features.
Skimmeroutdoors.com had surpassed 2
million views this past year.
I fish hard and enjoy every day
on the water.
